a side  hegemony / b side the devil & the farmer

Hegemony finds its roots both in traditional English folk music and late 70s post-punk. We first heard it as a track on an early Scritti Politti release, only realising last year that Green Gartside's lyric was inspired by traditional folk song Sweet Lemeney.  On the single we've used Gartside's lyric with the original folk tune.

In seeking licensing permission I contacted Rough Trade's Geoff Travis, who said 'This is a very pleasant surprise. A spirited full bodied version. Didn’t expect those horn blasts. Lovely vocal.'

Liz Pearson - vocals

David Asher - guitar

Richard Walder - tea chest bass

Ben Clennell - percussion

Darren Pearson - horn arr and keys
